New Jersey Woman Sues Former Employer for Harassment

A complaint made by a woman from Lawnside, New Jersey, has been filed against the parent company of a former employer. She alleges that she was subjected to regular sexual harassment during the course of her employment, which began in spring of 2009 and ended last summer.

Her attorneys have filed a lawsuit against CBS Radio, Inc. for the alleged discrimination that she went through while employed as the director of marketing and communications at KYW Newsradio 1060. She says that her male coworkers at the station subjected her and several other employees to crude taunts, sexual innuendos, hostility and sexual touching.

Allegedly, the harassing coworkers had slapped the plaintiff on the rear end, guessed her bra size, suggested that she was “fiery in bed” and made comments about her body.

In the suit, the woman says that she complained to her coworkers, supervisors and human resources representatives because of the hostile work environment she was allegedly exposed to. Her complaints were not addressed and she was supposedly terminated in retaliation to them in August 2010. If true, these actions are in direct violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, making them illegal.

The woman asserts that during her employment, she had discussed the sexual harassment with a fellow female employee who said that it was normal for their workplace and had been so for a long time.

The suit says that the woman experienced humiliation, anxiety, pain and suffering, physical injury, emotional injury and lost pay due to the alleged harassment. Besides sexual harassment and retaliation, the woman has alleged disability discrimination and equal pay discrimination against her former employer.

The trial will likely be heard before a jury.
